LEXX Unauthorized, Series 3: It’s Hot and It’s Cold

Half Star Trek, half Monty Python, half Bunuel and Jodorowsky, Lexx mixed science and surrealism with dark humour and a sense of pure anarchy. Paul Donovan was an obscure regional film-maker producing B-movies, Halifax was a sleepy coastal city in Nova Scotia. No one could have predicted that this would produce the strangest space opera of all time.

Volume Three sees the series enter a funding crisis, with a reduction of money and episodes, and a radical new approach to production, design and shooting on three continents. Onscreen, the format of the first two series is abandoned in favour of a bold innovation. After the destruction of the Light Universe in Series 2, the LEXX and her crew are stranded in the Dark Zone. They drift into the orbit of two warring planets, Fire and Water, which turn out to be Heaven and Hell.
